OUR DESIGN
PROCESS

Custom Designed Cabinets & Furniture Just For You

At Montgomery Woodwrights, your partnership with us will be a world-class experience in quality, value and customer service in professional custom cabinetry services. Below is an example of the process our projects take from conception to completion:

Outlining Your Vision

We spend time listening and asking questions to understand your needs, design challenges and lifestyle. Once we’ve identified every detail that matters to you in the space, we work with you to achieve your perfect balance of form and function. At this stage of the process, we collect measurements, design input, inspirational photos and discuss material selections so we can prepare your initial estimates.

Space Planning

Once you receive our initial estimate for the project, proceeding to the next steps entails working on the customized design for your space. To start this step, we will collect a design deposit that is applied to the total balance of the project. We work together on personalized elevation and plan drawings of your space to meet your needs. To help you envision the proposed design, our in-house team can present you with samples and state-of-the-art 3D renderings using Mozaik and ArielVision 3D. Your initial design deposit will be enough for our team to work through up to five design revisions of your project.

Product Selection & Design Sign-Off

During this phase of the process, we help guide the selection of each element of your space, including the cabinetry, hardware, specialty features, lighting, door & drawer designs and accessories. Our skilled consultants ensure that every component adds up to a personalized, layered look with maximum utility and perfect proportions. Once all of the details have been arranged, the project moves into the construction phase where we collect the initial deposit—typically 50% of the total, minus the design deposit amount. At this point, we’ll put your project into the production schedule and provide you with a tentative installation date. Changes to the design beyond this point will be subject to additional fees.

Shop-based Constrution

A member of the Montgomery Woodwrights team will remain in touch with you throughout the process of constructing your cabinets. Regular updates will include photos, any questions we have, and updates to the timeline if necessary. As the job moves closer to completion, we will schedule a firm installation date—at which time we will collect the second draw for the project which is 40% of the total.

On-site Construction

Once installation day is here, our professional team of installers will arrive (typically early in the day, or around 9AM) to get started. We will meet with you and go over the plan for the day. Cabinets will be staged, and the construction team will get started, taking all the precautions necessary to protect everything and everyone in the home. Cabinets are typically installed UNFINISHED, that is, unpainted and unstained. If during the design and estimating phase of the project Montgomery Woodwrights agreed to complete the finishing for you, we will contact the painting contractors to advise them when the project is ready for them to move in so they can begin. We can also arrange to have the cabinets finished PRIOR to installation, however this may require additional steps and expenses to conduct any touch-ups and/or repairs to the site.

Once the project has been completed, and you are completely satisfied with the project, we will collect the final 10% of the project.

Always at your Service

We review care and maintenance guidelines with you, on-site wherever possible. Our experts remain available throughout the lifetime of your space. All products are backed by our Montgomery Woodwrights LIFETIME warranty against product defects. Items covered under this warranty include drawer guides, door hinges and material defects. Items not covered include damages from excessive moisture, physical damage from overloading drawers or doors, scratches due to misuse and abuse.

We make every project a true partnership
